Anyone finding a place to live in Austin can vouch for the rising cost of rent. But a new report suggests there may be a cheaper option available.

DealChecker, a travel comparison site, studied rental prices across the country to determine where its cheaper to rent an Airbnb room than an apartment.

According to their analysis, the average price of an Airbnb rental per night for a private room is $31.80. Compared to the average rental price per night in Austin, $56.83, the Airbnb price comes out $25.03 cheaper, a 44% price difference.

DealChecker calculated these numbers by comparing rates on Airbnb with rental prices on RentCafe. The RentCafe rates were divided by 30 and then increased by 20% to account for the price of bills.

Austin’s not the only Texas city with seemingly cheaper Airbnb rates than apartment rents. In Dallas, the difference per night is $19.25; in Houston, it’s $20.40; and in San Antonio, the per night difference is $32.55.
